Arquitetura e dramaturgia: modelos iluminados da Corte refletidos na Casa de Ópera de Vila Rica e no Real Teatro São João (1770-1822)

Abstract

The proposal of this article is to present some results of the research Architecture and Dra­ma (supported for the CAPES and CNPq), searching to demonstrate that the "theatrical emptiness" in Brazil in the 18th century and beginning of nineteenth - cited by famous historians, was in the reality a period of intense theater and musical activities as well as in the fine arts, as proven by the innumerable constructed Houses of Opera. The example of the Opera of Vila Rica, built in the colonial period, and of the Real Theater of São João, built after the arrival of the Court have been analyzed as well as the repertoire that had been shown and they reflect the implanted Portuguese models in Brazil, as well as the inheritance of the taste for the theater and the opera that would be perpetuated throu­ghout the 19th century.
