Abstract

The present communication analyses the literary works and the biography of the friends of Bocage who were bom in Brazil. lt focuses on the underground reading of books that defended the principies of the Enlightenment, the alternative everyday-life of the students of the University of Coimbra, the praxis of the free-masons and the repression suffered by the free-thinkers at the end of the eighteenth century.

Daniel Pires, Centro de Estudos Bocageanos

Presidente do Centro de Estudos Bocageanos, Investigador do Centro de História e do CLEPUL da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, Professor do Ensino Secundário em Setúbal, foi Leitor de Português nas Universidades de Glasgow, Macau, Cantão e Goa. Autor e/ou organizador de numerosas publicações (livros, catálogos, ensaios, artigos etc.), incumbe-se no momento da edição da Obra Completa de Bocage (4 volumes já publicados) e dedica-se principalmente à pesquisa sobre a Imprensa Periódica em Portugal, autores do séc. XVIII e Camilo Pessanha.
