Nossa Senhora de Nazaré em Morro Vermelho: memória coletiva e história

Abstract

Trying to identify the relationships between history and collective memory, as it has been lived and represented by the subjects of the experience, this scudy exami­nes - through the perspective of the phenomenological social psychology - the elaboration of experience of a tradicional rural community of the state of Minas Gerais, Morro Vermelho, regarding what concerns its most important local tradition: the devotion and celebration of the feast of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré (Our Lady of Nazareth). ln this study, it is examined the testimony of 10 subjects in which they narrate the Portuguese origins of the tradition as well as the current meaning of that sacred figure for the local community. It is also analyzed the testimonies collected at the moment in which the subjects were acquainted with the details of the history of the patroness, which were brought by the researcher from Portugal , specifically from the city of Nazareth
