A legitimidade da Restauração portuguesa a partir do discurso do padre Antonio Vieira
Abstract
The Portuguese rescoration, happened after 60 years of domain of the Castillian crown on Portugal (1580-1640), imposed to the newly enthroned monarch the necessicy to confirm his legitimacy. With this aim, his defenders used juridical and prophetic elements to elaborate a legirimatized speech of the new dynascy. This is Priest Antonio Vieira's case which, scarting . from che lays ofBandarra and from the cheory of the Fifth Em pire of the World, would identify the new monarch with the one who was predestinaced to tum the Kingdom into a Universal Christian Empire. The aim of che presem study is, starting from Vieira's prophetic writings ro demonstrate how a speech was elaborated in order to demonstrate the new monarch's legitimacy; starting from his messianic expeccacions and from tradicional sucessory rules or elaborated from his messianism.
