Abstract
ln the contemporary Porruguese literature, the emigration and the exile appear as critical readings in the manner Portuguese man interpreted the XVI century travels or, at least, its major literary manifestation: Os Lusíadas. Pointing out the border as a fundamental concept, this essay intends to analyze some of these texts that, in the XX century, instituted a new way of understanding Portugal's identity and culture .
