Abstract

The commemorations around the centenary of José Saramago, this article seeks to contribute to studies on the work of the Portuguese writer, aiming to show in O homem duplicado, published in 2002, a transgression that will result in the course of the narrative, in a willful and a guilty crime, through the actions of the central characters of the novel, taken by an excessive action. With this analysis, we intend to show how the Portuguese writer updates some elements of classical tragedy, incorporating them into the hybrid genre that is the novel.

Claudia Amorim, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Professora associada da UERJ, com mestrado em literatura portuguesa (UFRJ), doutorado em literatura comparada (UERJ) e pós-doutorado em literaturas africanas em língua portuguesa (USP). Atua na graduação e pós-graduação. É professora pró-cientista com bolsa UERJ e coordena desde 2012 o Programa de Estudos Galegos, em convênio com a Xunta de Galicia. É membro do Conselho Editorial de Revista Matraga, da Pós-Graduação em Letras.
