Experience in Africa has been a recurring theme in the most recent Portuguese language literary production, especially in Lusitanian and African works. Some authors have broken the silence and stripped the truths behind the European colonizing action, in this case, the last years of the Portuguese Empire. It is in this context that Isabela Figueiredo's book Cadernos de memórias coloniais (2019) is set. The plot brings up the reality perpetrated in colonial society, especially the relationship between colonists and colonized blacks steeped in racism and oppression. Given this, this work investigates the images of racism in the referent work and how the European segregationist ideologies were the main precursors of racial prejudice that still prevails today both in Portuguese society and in the entire world context. Therefore, this paper establishes an interdisciplinary dialogue in which literature dialogues with assumptions of postcolonial theory, history and cultural studies. Among the authors used are Frantz Fanon, Edward Said, Kabenguele Munanga, Thomas Bonnici.
