ANA PAULA TAVARES was born in Angola, holds a PhD in Anthropology of History from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2010), a Master's degree in Brazilian Literature and African Literatures in Portuguese from the Universidade de Lisboa (1996), and a Bachelor's and Licentiate degree in History from the Universidade de Lisboa (1982). She is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Letters of the Universidade de Lisboa, an integrated researcher at CLEPUL, a collaborator at AHA (Angolan Historical Archive), a visiting professor at Universidade Agostinho Neto (Luanda), and a collaborator with RDP-África. She is a writer. Her main research areas are the History and Literature of the African continent and Angola. She has several publications in the fields of fiction and poetry. She received the Mário António Poetry Prize in 2004 from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the National Prize for Literature and Arts, Angola, in 2007.
