Abstract

This paper aims to map out some interpretations of the epic-legendary episode of Camões’ shipwreck and how this event reverberates in numerous other poems and poets, such as Almeida Garrett, Cesário Verde, Almada Negreiros, and Adília Lopes. In this sense, it highlights how the figure of the hero-singer of Portuguese deeds is transformed into a kind of ever-shifting imaginary, always ready to metamorphose and assume various identities and forms.

Izabela Leal, Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA)

Professora de Literatura da Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA) e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras (PPGL/UFPA). É Mestre em Estudos literários pela PUC-Rio e Doutora em Literaturas Vernáculas pela UFRJ, com tese sobre Herberto Helder. Publicou o livro Camilo Pessanha em dois tempos, em parceria com Gilda Santos (2007). Desenvolve, desde 2015, projetos de pesquisa voltados aos estudos das poéticas indígenas.
