Abstract

The relevance of ancient texts changes according to the circumstances of each era. In this respect, Camões’ epic requires today a consistent and systematic enquiry procedure. This paper sets out to do just that, favouring precisely what seems most conventional in the poem: the mythological intrigue and its protagonists.

José Augusto Cardoso Bernardes, Universidade de Coimbra

Professor Catedrático na Faculdade de Letras de Coimbra (FLUC) e membro do Centro de Literatura Portuguesa. Comissário-Geral para as Comemorações do V Centenário do Nascimento de Luís de Camões (2024-2026). Coordenou, introduziu e anotou a edição do VI volume das Obras completas de Eduardo Lourenço que reúne os Estudos sobre Camões (Lisboa: Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, 2019). Cocoordenou a Biblos – Enciclopédia VERBO das Literaturas de Língua Portuguesa (5 volumes, Lisboa e São Paulo: Editorial Verbo, 1995-2005). Recentemente reuniu alguns dos seus estudos camonianos esparsos em revistas e obras coletivas no volume A oficina de Camões: apontamentos sobre Os Lusíadas / Camões in the workshop: notes on The Lusiads (Coimbra: Imprensa da Universidade, 2022).
