Abstract

This article is based on a detailed material analysis of a copy of the first edition of the book Os Lusíadas, by Luís Vaz de Camões, dated 1572, belonging to the collection of the Royal Reading Room, located in Rio de Janeiro. Through an analysis of the material, the text presents the typographic characteristics that individualize the copy, and the trajectory of the restoration and rebinding processes it underwent. The study, which seeks its basis in the methodologies of Codicology, Material Bibliography, and Conservation and Restoration, indicates the rarity and uniqueness of the copy that tells its own story through the marks left by time and man.

Alícia Duhá Lose, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA)

Professora Titular do Setor de Filologia do Instituto de Letras da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) e professora dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Língua e Cultura da UFBA, e em Estudos Linguísticos, da Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UEFS). É Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (Pq2-CNPq). Licenciada em Letras pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Mestre e Doutora em Letras pela (UFBA), com Pós-Doutoramentos em Filologia (UFBA), História das Relações Internacionais (Universidade de Brasília – UnB) e em História da Cultura Escrita (Universidade de Évora – UE). Foi Investigadora Visitante Sênior na Universidade de Coimbra (UC) no Centro de História da Cultura e da Sociedade (CHCS, área Paleografia e Diplomática) através da bolsa PVEx-Senior da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). É presidente do Centro de Pesquisa e Documentação Paleográfica (CEPEDOP) do Memória Arte; líder do Grupo de Pesquisa Modus Scribendi – Pesquisas Paleográficas, Filológicas e Históricas (CNPq-UFBA); e membro dos Grupos de Pesquisa em Crítica Textual da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (CNPq-FBN), do Metamorphose – Materialidade e Interpretação de Manuscritos e Impressos da Época Moderna (CNPq-UnB) e do CEDOHS – Corpus Eletrônico de Documentos Históricos do Sertão (CNPq-UEFS). É investigadora colaboradora do Centro de Estudos Globais da Universidade Aberta de Portugal (CEG-Uab); do Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares da Universidade de Coimbra (CEIS20-UC); e do Centro de Literaturas e Culturas Lusófonas Europeias da Universidade de Lisboa (CLEPUL-UL). É conservadora-restauradora com formação em diversos cursos no Brasil e no exterior.
